SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES

1. "Phase 1 System" Digital Library
 
a. Complete development of the "Phase 1 System " Digital Library
b. Implement cleaner secondary image (JPEG & PDF) generation
c. Construct Florida Heritage Project web portal
Specify and implement the standard elements and behaviors of a project web portal
• Provide user help information
• Specify Iogo characteristics (and create both DL and FHP Iogos)
• Name the Digital Library (i.e., the SUS Digital Library is not a name; it's a description)
d. Augment structural metadata (DataSet.TOC) per discussion
• TIFF and publication-format handling procedure
• Additional tree levels
2. Redefine the metadata model, its form and function
 
a. Redefine the metadata model for extensible uses (i.e., XML encapsulations of EAD, TEl/TEl-2, etc.)
b. Construct a client to capture (structural and administrative) metadata during imaging
c. Make structural meta-data searchable
d. Query metadata to link libraries
• e.g., hot link metadata elements (call number, etc.) to query institution group holdings or other (Z39.50) library catalogs and other electronic libraries
• Necessary to link SUS DL with non-SUS DLs, e.g., State Library & Archives sites, into one seamless collection for users
e. Redefine the presentation model (cf, 1c) to accommodate extensible uses (e.g., XSL --> HTML, XHTML) to accommodate roll-up tables of content
3. Extend the content model of the Digital Library
 
a. Query (dirty) text-behind-image
b. Support delivery of UNICODE text with (extensible) mark-up and extend the presentation model to support delivery of such text
c. Support scalable vector images (primarily for maps, also other large formats)
