***Directors have initated a Collection Management Group. What are the roles of the ECC and this new group & PSPC? Collection Management Group will be mostly folks who do not spend much time in Public Services. Perhaps more of a Tech Services perspective. No one knows what the charge is yet. Perhaps more budget-oriented issues.
An example of an ECC decision with collection development and budgetary implications: The INSPEC decision was reached with some feeling that therewere no good alternatives; danger of making decisions based solely on money available for purchase.
Overlap of decisions; content vs. interface.
In previous years, many members of PSPC also represented their institution on ECC; this duplication of ECC/PSPC membership is dwindling. One idea : the ECC could be a subcommittee of the new Collection Management Committee and the PSPC.
Local communication is REALLY important. ECC members need to communicate ECC decisions to librarians and ask for input; database changes need to be communicated locally.
One possible issue for the new group: electronic vs. print; cooperative collection development.Books in Print: one more yr on WebLUIS; Usage is low on Ulrich's & BiP
***WebLUIS TaskForce is morphing! Work will have to proceed on design and indexing for Aleph. Counterproductive to do a lot of redesign on 14.2 version. We need to be like CC's on some things, but where we differ is the question. Community Colleges want Aleph to look like LINCC plus.
Morphing into new SC on OPAC; Who is this group:membership will be a local decision.
Standing Subcommittee. Members need understanding of functionality and indexing, how is functionality presented. Indexing decisions will be a big part of this. Perhaps a Cooperative group on indexing with tech services representation. Rename and reconfirm membership.Establishing OPAC Subcommittee subsuming WebLUIS responsibilities and send recommendation to Dale Canelas, chair of the Directors before next Directors Meeting.
***Ex Libris signing: chancellor of BoR, president of UF, both need to sign; legal side has lots of participation. Good support from UF Legal.
***Authentication starts at UF in January.
***Proxy: highly recommended that each library run its own EZ Proxy.
Use tool developed at FCLA; Public response is fabulous.
Once it's set up---no maintenance, low cost, fun on an old workstation.4230000 accesses on Sunday on the proxy; 6500 errrors mostly involving authentication; failed IDs or operator error, 16%
