a)  Library and sublibrary codes must be unique across the SUS and Community College Aleph installations to support shared patron services.

b)  Library codes are used in naming the files for a university's catalog; format is 3 alphas for the university plus 2 numerics for the file type - e.g., FAM01 for the FAMU bib file, FAM60 for the FAMU holdings file.

c)  Sublibrary codes are used to identify collections at the building level, more or less; have a circ function analogous to service units in NOTIS. A collection within a building may be a candidate for a sublibrary code if its hours are different from the building hours and the circ policies can't be covered otherwise. Sublibrary code in these examples comprises 3 alphas for the administrative entity (e.g, main, law, health) and 2 alphas for the 'building'. The codes expand into longer display names in the OPAC.

d)  Collection codes are used to identify sublocations within a building; they don't serve a circulation function; they expand into a longer display name in the OPAC.
