The libraries' representatives to the FCLA Technical Services and Public Services Committees and the FCLA Liaisons met in Gainesville October 18 and 19 for the annual Joint Meeting to discuss FCLA project priorities for the next twelve months. The results of that meeting have been reported in the paper titled "1989/90 FCLA Enhancement Ballot Results". This document is an extract from the report and reports only those projects that received the highest priority as described below.
At the Joint Meeting each university's consensus was expressed by point assignment. Each university had ten points for each of five subsystems -- acquisitions/serials control, cataloging/authorities, circulation, LUIS/tech searching, and system-wide -- for a total of fifty points. Within a subsystem, the points could be distributed however they wished: one point each to ten projects, ten points to one project, or anything in between. In addition, each university had five "superpoints" to assign irrespective of subsystem to indicate their top one to five projects. All five superpoints could be assigned to one project if desired.
The highest ranking projects follow. The "Across Subsystems" column reflects the superpoint assignment. The "Within Subsystem" column reflects assignment of the ten points for each subsystem. The items are organized by subsystem, and within a subsystem, the items are ordered by number of "within subsystem" points. To be listed here as a "priority", an enhancement received more than 10% of the "within system" points or received at least one superpoint.
| Across Subsystem % | Within Subsystem % | Enhancement |
|---|---|---|
| 27 | Relink of order records which have no pay statements. Allow staff to move an order record linked to the wrong copy statement or wrong bibliographic record to the correct statement or record.
Status: waiting on Feb. design meeting with NU's Veneziano and Aagaard | |
| 2 | 24 | Reports. Furnish additional management reports to aide in acquisitions and collection development activities. Reinstate pre-NOFA report of payments for each title.
Status: active for 3 reports; waiting on specs for other reports |
| 17 | Automatic renumber of receipt, memo, and note statements. Provide the ability to rearrange the sequence of statements within an order record without having to manually renumber each statement.
Status: waiting on Feb. design meeting with NU's Veneziano and Aagaard | |
| 14 | Vendor record index for names. A vendor record currently can be accessed only by vendor code, which may or may not be derivative of the vendor name and cannot be changed once the record has been created. In addition, the complete code must be entered to retrieve a vendor record; truncation is not allowed. An index to an editable, variable length vendor name field would greatly improve online retrieval of vendor records. Status: waiting on FCLA resources |
