June 7, 2002

Call to Order: The Aleph Implementation Steering Committee conference call of Friday, June 7, convened at 1:00 p.m. Presiding co-chair was Julia Woods (Broward CC). Members of the committee present included Barry Baker (UCF), Jim Corey (FCLA), Denise English (LSCC), John Hein (UNF), Sheila Hiss (NFCC, Kathy Hoeth (UF), Martha Hruska (UF), Kristin Kubly (FCCJ), Richard Madaus (CCLA), Debra Sears (State Library), and Colleen Thorburn (TCC). Guests were Ann Armbrister (CCLA), Lisa Close (CCLA), Diann Davis (CCLA), Brenda Ferris (CCLA) and Michele Newberry (FCLA). Sherry Carrillo was unable to participate.
  1. Report From June 5-6 Ex Libris Training
Julia Woods reported that Ex Libris delivered training on June 5-6 at CCLA in Tallahassee for the OPAC and Indexing Task Forces. The training was on Aleph version 15.2 and seemed to go very well. The indexing and OPAC committees were given their charge and timeframes. The Indexing Task Force has been asked to bring back an initial report to the steering committee by September 30. The OPAC Task Force has been asked to do an initial report by November 1. If they find issues in between they will come back to the AISC committee with their concerns.
  2. Liaison Meeting Reports On June 6 Task Force Meetings
Colleen Thorburn reported on the work and decisions made by the Indexing Task Force. Kristin Kubly reported on the work and decisions made by the OPAC task force. Julia Woods thanked everyone for being willing to serve on these task forces.

There was further discussion on the OPAC task force and the interface for union catalogs, and the technical difficulty involved in bringing up the union OPAC. Seamless was defined "as much consistency as possible."

  3. Other Issues
Diann Davis reported on the evaluation forms for June 5-6 which were good overall.

Richard reported that an announcement has been made to the CCLA Executive Committee and Advisory Board that CCLA will not be doing their switch to production in June/July as originally planned. They will wait until December/January. That puts CCLA 6 months behind the SUS target date.

  4. Next Meeting
A teleconference call was scheduled for October 2 at 3:00 p.m.
