Authorities Subcommittee Report
1999 FCLA Joint Committee Meeting

Technical Services Planning Committee
Prepared and reported by: Phek Su, Co-chair
  1. 1998/99 Committee Report - Interim report submitted by Nancy Williams
  2. "There has been little specific authority activity this year. We were all taking a breather after the intensity of work involved with CLARR and Autoclaim in the previous year. At UF we have been using the BatchBAM software for working with the Yankee records and have begun experimenting with using it on the govdoc indexed files. Some identified refinements are being made right now by Gary Strawn and we are testing them. When we get the kinks out, we will be posting some instructions in ts-plan. There were some problems with Autoclaim and the New Headings List production this spring and these had to be worked on. The implementation of the |v for form divisions created some indexing problems that persisted for a number of weeks until all indexes were regenerated.

Catalyst review does involve some work with looking at authority needs. Catalyst does allow better views of the guide and index screens, which help in authority work, and the indexing can go farther in the heading text string. CLARR-like functionality (verification and validation) and authority record creation await development." Submitted by Nancy Williams, May 20, 1999.
