Using ProCite 5.0 with the FCLA Z39.50 Server
To access your library catalog via the FCLA Z39.50 server, you must change the overall FCLA configuration preset in ProCite.
- On the Internet Search tab, click the Hosts button to display the Internet Hosts dialog.
- Click Clear Marks
- Click Configure Hosts to display the list of Z39.50 servers currently configured.
- Choose FCLA (if there is a plus mark beside FCLA, click on FCLA so you can choose Library Catalog)
- Choose Library Catalog
- Change the Database Name to the two-letter abbreviation of your university (these are listed on the Setting Up Access Via the FCLA Z39.50 Server Information Page.
- Now you must enter the Search attributes as they appear in the table below. These are the attributes that our server supports.
To access Restricted FCLA Databases on the FCLA Z39.50 server
- On the Internet Search tab, click the Hosts button to display the Internet Hosts dialog.
- Click Clear Marks
- Click Configure Hosts to display the list of Z39.50 servers currently configured.
- Click New Host.
- On the General tab, enter the following.
Host Name: XX (use the two-letter database name)
Domain Name or IP Address: z3950.fcla.edu
Port Number: 210
Library Type: Academic
Location: USA
URL: Enter the web address of these instructions (not required). It is helpful as a reference in case you have questions later. www.fcla.edu/z3950info.html
Description: A short description of the FCLA database, for this display only.
- If you are configuring an FCLA Restricted Database, then you MUST check the box next to Requires Password. You may put your 14-digit library card number in the blank OR you may leave it blank and you will be prompted for the number when you connect.
- Click OK to save changes to the Host Properties.
ProCite will now prompt you to configure at least one database.
- Fill in the displayed fields with the following information:
Database Name: XX (use the two-letter database name)
Description: Database Description (e.g., FCLA's Academic Index)
Record Type: USmarc
Format: USmarc
- Now you must enter the Search attributes as they appear below. These are the attributes that our server supports.

- Click OK, then OK again.
